New Experiences!

Hi Friends! We had another long but great day on Thursday. We did a ton of stuff courtest of the San Frncisco Del Monte Rotary Club. (Thanks guys!!) I think one of the highlights that stood out for alot of us was the fish spa!! It was a first for many of us. It was such a fun, interesting, questionable experience; I definitely recommend trying it if you have an opportunity. Here is a pic of my feet and Rebecca's.

I will let the others tell you more about our day as I am eating my breakfast and have to leave soon. Here is one last picture to leave you with, don't be jealous.

  1. Hello! I am so very much enjoying your adventures/travels/education/community building. How are the people that you are interacting with responding/dealing/coping with the Earthquake that hit Japan, the after shocks, the tsunami and the future tsunamis? Will your itineray plans change? Is the region, and therefore the people, "prepared" for such events and appear "calm yet concerned..." or how would you describe from Thursday to Friday to Saturday etc...

  2. Hi Hillary,

Thanks for following us! First, let me clarify for anyone concerned for our safety that we are all perfectly fine. People here do not expect to get any damage from the Tsunami since we are on the south west part of the island, and therefore well protected. I think everyone here is very concerned about the damage the earthquake caused in Japan. A lot of the people here have friends and colleagues in Japan, and are just praying that everyone they know are alright. They are also concerned about the potential damage to areas of the Philippines in the far north east. I'm not yet sure what damage, if any has been reported there.

The Philippines has the capabilities to have nuclear power. According to my host, Beth Santos, under President Marcos in the 1980s, the country spent millions of dollars building a nuclear power plant. But the people decided not to abandon the project because of the risk associated with being on a fault line. This may have seemed like a waste of money at the time, but in respect of the recent tragedy in Japan, I think most people here would agree they are glad not to have that risk in their homeland.
