Vocational Days

I have been meaning to post about my visit to the Pearl S. Buck Philippines office for over a week now. We have to make time to post to the blog so if you are wondering why we don't post more often, it's because we literally have no time!

We are allotted one vocational day a week where we go and learn about our profession. As most of you already know, I do the marketing for a business valuation firm. Here in the Philippines, they don't really have a need and if it is needed, there are no guidelines nor is it very regulated. My vocational days have been interesting but not specific to valuation. I did, however, get to go to the Pearl Buck office here which I have some close ties to as I volunteer at home and my father is chairman of the board.

For those of you who don't know, PSBI is headquartered in Bucks County, PA. They have offices all over the world and Quezon city, where I have been staying, is one of them. They sponsor alot of communities here and also facilitate adoptions. Fun fact: Apl.de.ap of the Black Eyed Peas was a sponsored child through Pearl Buck Philippines and subsequently was adopted by his sponsored father.

Anyway, I met with their entire office and chairman of the board, Rosalind Wee. Everyone was so nice and welcoming to me. They are starting to think of the new ways they are going to market their specific office within the Philippines so that was fun for me to discuss since marketing is my forte. It was also nice b/c the Rotarian that took me to the office is going to try and figure out how they can help donate items to their different sponsored communities as well.

A big thank you to everyone who had a part in organizing this visit for me. I included 2 images: one of me with the entire staff of the office and one with a picture of "Mama Pearl" as they call her here in the Philippines.

If you are interested in learning more or perhaps interested in sponsoring a child, here is the link: http://www.psbi.org/site/PageServer?pagename=PSBI_Child_Sponsorship. I would be happy to answer any questions or put you in touch with someone with more knowledge :)

  2. Thanks Susie for visiting the Pearl S. Buck FOundation in The Philippines. It was so great of Mrs. Rosalind Wee to meet you at the office. She is an awesome Board President. I hope our Rotary Club of Doylesotwn, PA, can do a project with a ROtary Club in the Philippines at one of the Pearl S. Buck sites there. Maybe you can be the link to make it happen.
